Update to Blog 1 September 2021
We now have 3 Chooks - unfortunately Boss became sick in July and passed away.
The good news is that all three chooks are now laying small green eggs.
Welcome to the Cottage blog! My name is Mrs Johns and I support students at Owairaka District School who are new to NZ and are learning the English Language. This blog is a space where I share all types of experiences we have at our school and what were have been learning about. Please leave positive, thoughtful and helpful comments to help prompt our students to communicate in a fun and enjoyable way.

The black one should be called licorice, because of black licorice. Or it could be called pitch black like the rise of the guardians!
Kina for the black one and Pipi for the white one
Hin
The brown one should be called Brownie
We also have a question...Roughly how long do you think chickens can live for? Thanks, Megan and Room 7 students
Hi Miss Judd.
DeleteI like how you put in Big Chungus.
GO BIG CHUNGUS!!
Wow - you guys have put a lot of thought into your names. I will list them on the slides. Hens can live anywhere from 5 years to 8 years, depending on the life they have and the breed. They stop laying regularly at around 5-6 years. I have an old Silkie, who is called Beautiful. She hasnt laid an egg for two to three years but is enjoying her retirement. I am trying to work out how old she must be. Will let you know.
