A Chick is hatched

The Cottage is the proud home of an Australorp chick. Born on 21 November 2017 .

It took 21 days, or three weeks, for  one egg to hatch in an incubator.

Because it was lonely it adopted a mum. A Silkie Hen

Chirps at six months old

Chirps is off to Rainbow Springs in Rotorua on Tuesday to have a wonderfully protected life. He/She is six months old now and ready for a new adventure.                                                            I will miss this cheeky fun-loving bird. Very clever and amusing to watch.

Chirps was mistakenly thought to be a Starling. Both the Tui and

Starling share beautiful iridescent green blue and purple feathers.
